What YOU can do to help the Palestinian people

I hope this email reaches you in the best of health and Iman inshAllah.

Many of you will have witnessed the horrific images that have been flashing across the various news channels depicting the massacre of the Palestinian people by the Israelis, and despite being here in the UK, there are a number of things that we can do to help our fellow brothers and sisters:

Things WE can do:

1) Tahajjud & Dua - There is no doubt that there is nothing more greater than turning to Allah (swt) to seek His Mercy and His Assistance during these difficult times and as the Prophet (saw) said
"Our Lord descends to the lowest heaven during the last third of the night, inquiring: 'Who will call on Me so that I may respond to him? Who is asking something of Me so I may give it to him? Who is asking for My forgiveness so I may forgive him?'" (Al-Bukhari)

2) Donate Money - The Palestinian people are in urgent need for your donations for urgent medical aid and you can donate to Interpal in a number of ways:

  • Phone:  Call the Interpal hotline: 02089619993
  • Online: Go to www.interpal.org and follow the online instructions

5) Email/Telephone/Send Letters/Meet your local MP - The MPs have been elected to serve us and we should make sure that we contact them and pressurise them to do something against this Israeli brutality.  Attached to this email is a template letter that you can use to send your letter to your local MP.

6) Call the Foreign & Commonwealth Office - Express your concern with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, please call 020 7008 1500

Islam Awareness Week Reminder

My brothers and Sisters, there is about 50 of you who are currently signed up to volunteer in Da`wa for Islam Awareness Week. That is significantly less than what we are looking for, which is a minimum of 100 brothers and sisters. Do you not want to get the reward and fulfill your duty as a da`ee?

  • If you don't then change your mind and fulfill your duty as a da'ee.
  • If you do then e-mail your name and number with your e-mail address to emraj@live.com for the brothers, and to asfia.n.malik@gmail.com for the sisters.

  • Help Interpal and Ummah Welfare Trust

    Interpal:

As you may be aware on the November 12, Interpal received notification from their bank, the Islamic Bank of Britain (IBB), that Lloyds TSB (their clearing bank) has served notice on IBB to cease all dealings with Interpal. This has the potential to force Interpal to cease operations by this Jan 2009.

Llyods TSB wrote a letter to IBB saying “we do not wish you to transfer, receive, process or in any way deal with any funds, or in any way whatsoever… be involved with any type of banking arrangements for Interpal which either uses or involves any products or services provided by us.” The original letter can be found at www.interpal.org

Llyods TSB has not given any reason to why they want to stop the transfer of any funds. (However I think you and I both know why).

It worries me because our brothers and sisters in Palestine are the ones who will suffer.  Interpal has helped the Palestinians with over £40 million worth of humanitarian aid development since 1994.

Lloyds TSB has treated IBB and Interpal with contempt. Their action sends a signal to other Muslim charities – as well as the bank’s 50,000 Muslim account holders – that their accounts can be closed down without any justification or explanation at any time.

What can the brothers and sisters at ISoc do?

Interpal has drafted letters which can be sent to Lloyds TSB, the Prime Minister and the Bank of England.

Drafter letters can be found here:

    Ummah Welfare Trust:

UWT would like to thank all of our Supporters, Donors and Organisations who have extended their support to us by phoning and emailing Barclays in the hundreds. The standard reply of Barclays indicates that their decision is based on a thorough internal investigation which has been disclosed to UWT. This is clearly a false statement from Barclays who have provided no reason for the closure.

Please click here to see the notice letter sent by Barclays. [0.5MB, PDF]

Help UWT now! Contact Barclays and ask for a reason of account closure and inform them that you and your associates will be closing your accounts if the decision is not immediately reversed.

Your support is vital for the cause of humanity.

You can contact Barclays Bank in the following ways:

    Call Barclays now on 0800 282 390 / 0207 116 7488

Email Barclays Business Manager Mr. Columb O'shea: columb.oshea@barclays.com and Mr. John Varley: john.varley@barclays.com

    Write to:

                    John Varley
                    Group Chief Executive
                    Barclays Bank
                    1 Churchill Place
                    London
                    E14 5HP

Download a draft letter to Barclays (right click on download link and choose 'save target as' to save to your computer)

    Sign an online petition here.

Original letter can be viewed at http://www.uwt.org/Press/Press-Release/Press-Release-25-12-08.asp

Please help them with whatever you can, and don't forget them in your du`as.
